Whip-Poor-Will Lodge, built by JW "Doc" Goodwin in 1905, is a five bedroom camp on Lake Winnipesaukee's South Wolfeboro Bay for his family to spend the hot summer months while living in town the rest of the year. That camp has stayed in my family for more than 100 years through four generations of Goodwins, MacColls and Rudys.
Now we're renting it out to people who like a true lakehouse experience. If you're looking for sheetrock, jacuzzis, lawns and big boathouses then this is probably not for you. If you are looking to be at home for a week or two in the summer for your family, somewhere you can come year after year, then look into this a little further. Of course, it's not exactly roughing it!
- On a secluded, exclusive South Wolfeboro Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro, NH -- Mitt Romney is a neighbor!
- Seven nights in a week -- arrive after 3 p.m. on Saturday and leave by 9 a.m. the next Saturday.
Five bedrooms that can sleep a total of 9 people (or 10 if someone is willing to brave the couch downstairs -- ouch!) including three rooms with queen beds, one room with a full bed and one room for the kids with two twin beds (which can be pushed together to make a king!)
- Private dock and sandy swimming area that slopes so slowly you cand stand up 15 feet off shore with water so clear you can see the bottom
- We
welcome encourage children and dogs. We'll negotiate on cats, but it's really not a good idea (we've tried)
- 600 feet of private lakefront. So much that you can look left or right and not see another house (though there are a bunch across the lake)
- Dining room that seats nine and overlooks the lake
- Full kitchen, bath with shower and tub, washer and electric dryer, coffee maker and microwave
- Living room with huge fieldstone fireplace
- Wrap-around porch with birch railings overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee
- South-facing for great early morning sun and evening sunsets
- In 2009 we will add satellite TV and Internet access, though you'll have to drag the TV out of the closet. Seriously, the camp is better without TV.
- Just a mile and a half from downtown Wolfeboro, NH with shops, antiques, fine dining, and family restaurants.
- Just 45 minutes from Weirs beach with its waterpark, family fun, arcades and other great day-trip activities.
All this for just $1000 a week out of season, $1500 a week in season, and $2000 for Memorial Day week, Independence Day week and Labor Day week. |
